My Story

WILLIAM PATRICK

I’m a widely published journalist, ghostwriter and communications professional with a record of producing results.

From Jan. 2022 to July 2024, I worked at the Florida Department of Education. There, I served as the Department’s deputy director of communications and interim director of communications, in addition to serving as a deputy director in the prestigious Division of Public Schools, which oversees 3.2 million public school students and over 185,000 teachers.

My contributions included communication strategy and coordination with the Executive Office of the Governor and Department senior leadership, often resulting in press releases, media responses, internal reports, documents and special projects, as well as issue briefs, op-eds and talking points for the Florida Commissioner of Education.

During that period, Florida was ranked #1 in overall education for two years in a row, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Prior to public service, I worked as a journalist for over a decade. Mostly, I wrote for nonprofit investigative news organizations, including the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, the Franklin News Foundation, and the Government Accountability Institute. I’ve written hundreds of news articles, with my work appearing across a range of state-based and national news platforms.

I have also ghostwritten three full-length books — two of which were for a New York Times bestselling author. Moreover, I’ve ghostwritten multiple book proposals and hundreds of pages of content for two other New York Times bestselling authors. My journalism and non-fiction book writing spans education, finance, economics, legislation, public policy, elections, sports, health care, corruption and crime.

I’m passionate about writing, and I feel a profound sense of satisfaction when communicating important information and ideas effectively. I believe there is tremendous value in doing so.

Today, I live in Tallahassee, Florida, with my beautiful wife Laura and three young children, Wyatt, Chloë and Henry. Previously, I lived in New York City, where I graduated magna cum laude from Hunter College, City University of New York.
